Keeping the lights on
Belgium will face energy supply challenges in the near future. The energy supply challenges means that around half of the country’s current thermal electricity generation capacity will have disappeared by 2025. As the operator of Belgium’s high-voltage grid, Elia keeps the lights on and as such advises the federal government on guaranteeing the country’s security of supply.
