Replacement of a three-phase 150-kV overhead power line between the Oisquercq (Tubize) and Buizingen (Halle) substations with 150-kV underground electricity cables.
Guaranteeing the national grid's reliability
As part of our efforts to guarantee our grid's reliability, we have to continually assess our facilities' performance. Now that the current overhead line is nearing the end of its life, we are redesigning this part of our grid so that we can continue ensuring the security of the region's power supply.

In the interest of society
Replacing the line between Oisquercq and Buizingen is necessary for two reasons:

The end of the current line's life
The line currently connecting the Oisquercq and Buizingen substations dates back to 1959 and is reaching the end of its life. -
Guaranteeing the electricity grid's security and reliability
By replacing this line, we are guaranteeing a reliable and secure grid that can provide a continuous supply of electricity.

The route
The new 150-kV underground line, which will feature one three-phase transmission line, will have a total length of 14.7 km, of which 6 km will be in the Walloon Region and 8.7 km in Flanders.

Environment
As a socially responsible company, Elia is deeply committed to the environment. It contributes actively to the energy transition and is particularly concerned with preserving biodiversity. It also works closely with local authorities, residents and all the local stakeholders affected by its infrastructure projects as it expands and upgrades its grid.
A note on the environmental impact assessment was carried out by an independent consultancy.
During the works phase, Elia also makes every effort to minimise the impact of its infrastructure projects on the local environment in which they are located. -
Schedule
- March-April 2020 : Submission of permit application
- May 2020 : Public enquiry
- 2021-2023 : Work on the underground line
- 2024-2025 : Dismantling of the overhead line

Submission of a permit application for the dismantling of the overhead line
For the purpose of the Oisquercq-Buizingen project, which aims at enhancing the reliability of Elia infrastructures in the region, a permit application was submitted by Elia in mid-October with the authorities of the Walloon Region relating to the dismantling of the overhead line between the substations of Oisquercq (Tubize) and Buizingen (Halle).

Excavation work on Begonialaan
On Monday 13 June, Elia is starting excavation work on Begonialaan for laying a high-voltage cablev between Buizingen en Oostkerk.
